Program Information

John Wayne Airport understands traveling through an airport can be a difficult experience for individuals with hidden disabilities like Autism. To ease some of the stress associated with airport travel, our Helping Hands team is here to assist you.

With Helping Hands, you will receive the following personalized travel assistance: 

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE contact us at (949) 252-5200 to speak to someone directly about your special assistance needs. You may also email us at

WHEN YOU ARRIVE at the Airport, stop by our Information Booth in Terminal B Arrival (lower) Level Baggage Claim or dial “0” from any Courtesy phone located throughout the Terminal. Our Helping Hands team can help you:

  • Facilitate calls to TSA and arrange for TSA Cares assistance.
  • Facilitate calls to airlines to arrange special assistance.
  • Help guide you through the arrival, check-in, security and boarding processes.
  • Provide you with an optional yellow bracelet which will help inform Airport employees that a little more time may be needed to prepare for check-in and security screening, and that extra care may be required as you make your way through the Airport.

This service is provided at no charge and is available daily from 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

TSA Cares Helpline: Travelers with medical conditions and disabilities can call toll-free at 1-855-787-2227 prior to traveling to ask questions about screening policies, procedures and about what to expect at the security checkpoints. The helpline is staffed Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. until 8 p.m. PT, and 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. PT on weekends and holidays.
